Today we learned how to represent two digit numbers using base ten blocks in more than one way. Ask me to represent 28 in two different ways using base ten blocks.

We brainstormed adjectives to describe our pumpkin, measured the height and distance around, and sketched a diagram with all the parts of the pumpkin. We will be learning a lot more about pumpkins this week!

In Math we are working on representing numbers in different ways. Today we practiced expanded form. Expanded form is when you write the value for each digit and add them together. Ask me to show you the expanded form for 88.

Today we talked about urban, suburban and rural communities. We discovered that we live in a suburban community because there are a lot of houses and not too many people like in urban areas. We are working on drawing each of the three types of communities.

Today was Take Me Outside Day! We started the morning with a singalong all about different animals that we might find outside like caribou, beaver, and fish. In the afternoon we enjoyed one of the last warm days of fall by going outside to do buddy reading!

We explored our classroom to find objects that were magnetic or non magnetic. Then we drew a picture and labelled them in our visual journal.

Everyone in the whole school will go out to the field, pick a spot and read outside.

During Literacy each day different groups work on a variety of activities to become better readers and writers. One activity is Switch it. Each group gets words that are just right for them. For example they might build the word pot. Then they are asked to change one letter to make lot. Each time the words get more and more challenging.

During literacy we learn about different sounds and the letters that make them. Today we learned about the ou and ow sound. They sound the same which can be tricky. We sorted the words by the two different sounds and learned when to use each spelling of the sound.

This week is Take Me Outside Week. On Wednesday we will be participating in Take Me Outside Day. Can you do something outside after school each day this week?

Today we officially kicked off our Field Study Fridays. Mr. Scout visited us virtually and told us about the importance of the land. He told us that we could learn lots this year from the land. In Blackfoot culture making an offering of tobacco shows your gratitude for all that we can learn from the land. On our community walk we did 6 quick sketches of things that we could see in nature.
