Thinking addition for subtraction was the strategy we worked on today! For some of us this is a great strategy because we find addition easier than subtraction.

Over the past few days we have been working on our hot and cold safety posters. Ask me how to be safe around hot and cold things.

Jan. 30th

Today we started to learn about visualizing when reading. We practiced our visualizing by listening to a description of a lollipop. In our heads we created picture and then drew and described what are lollipop looked like. 

Today we used a new strategy to subtract 9 by subtracting 10 which is easier and then adding one back.

 Today we caught up on unfinished work from the week and spent some time out in the beautiful snow!

Jan. 26th

We are becoming experts in subtraction. Today we practiced two more strategies.

Unfortunately pictures are still not uploading to the blog. Today we created visual journal pages about our own culture. We brainstormed different, traditions, celebrations, languages, food, and clothes. We learned a lot about our classmates.

Jan. 25

Sorry no pictures today due to technical difficulties. Over the last few days we have read "Do Frogs Drink Hot Chocolate? and "Do Lizards Eat Ice Cream?" Using these books for inspiration we have created two visual journal pages about how humans stay cool or warm.

In gym today we got to use the big skipping ropes and do group skipping. It was a bit tricky, but everyone tried their best.

Jan. 24th

Today we used our Friends of Ten to help us subtract a number from ten. For example to find the answer for 10-6 we thought what is 6+?=10. We practiced by playing four in a row.

 

In Science we have been exploring hot and cold. Today we practiced writing sentences about hotter than and colder than.

Jan. 23

Over the next little bit in math we are reviewing and learning new subtraction strategies. Today we reviewed counting back. 

Nova Scotia has a lot of different natural resources. Natural resources are found in nature and used by people. 

It is Cultural Appreciation Week! Today we learned about Lunar New Year. In your family what are some special traditions and celebrations that you have?

Jan. 18th

We played 10 to Teen Bingo. We have one more addition strategy left to learn!

To our Nova Scotia art we added with paint rocks, waves and clouds. 

Then we created light houses and other things that you might see in Nova Scotia like whales, fishermen, boats and lots more.
