June 21st

Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day. We learned about the importance of the Summer Solstice. Each school in the CBE was gifted three flags that represent Treaty 7, Metis, and Inuit. Each flag is unique and has different symbolism. Ask me what I learned or noticed about the flag. Over the last few days of school we will continue to learn about Indigenous People.




In Math we learned about different ways to move objects call translations which include:

slides,


turns, 


and flips.

Today we explored 3D Shapes by identifying their faces, sides, and vertices. 





We learned that an onomatopoeia is a word that represents a sound. Today we played guess the sound. We guessed the sound AND said what the onomatopoeia could be.

June 19th

Today we read "Hey, Little Ant." The story is a dialogue between a boy and an ant about if the boy should step on the ant. It ends with the question what should the boy do? After reading the book we brainstormed reasons for why the boy should or shouldn't step on the ant! Then we each wrote what we thought the boy should do and gave three reasons why. Ask me if I would step on the ant and why or why not?

We have butterflies! It is fun to watch them grow and change!


Today we created our own butterfly life cycles!


We also learned that alliteration is when two or more words start with the same sound. It was challenging to come up with out own examples of alliteration. Ask me to give you an example.

Today we wrote letters to our Grade 3 teacher. Ask me what I wrote about. 


To celebrate all the fun we have had in Grade 2 we started making a cube that has our top six things we did in Grade 2. Ask me what I am putting on my cube.

Today we read "Something Good." Together we brainstormed what happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the story, as well as the characters and settings. Then we created our own retelling of the story.

Caterpillar update: We have three in their chrysalis! 

 

Today we started exploring 3D Objects. We went on a scavenger hunt around the school and outside. Ask me what I found. 




Today we brainstormed local animals that are either insects, mammals, birds or amphibians/reptiles. As you walk around the neighbourhood what animals do you see?
