Nov. 17th

In Math we started representing numbers using place value. We are starting with two digit numbers and will be moving on to three digit numbers soon. Some vocabulary we reviewed today was tens, ones, value, digit, and represents.

Today was exciting as we learned and reviewed some literacy games to add to our literacy rotations! Ask me which one was my favourite.

Today we started exploring themes connected to Remembrance Day. We read "The Peace Book" and used it to inspire our own writing about peace. We focused on making sure our sentences made sense and used correct punctuation.

To demonstrate our understanding of repeating, increasing, and decreasing patterns we are going to create our own pattern city. We used "The Best Surprise" to help us get ideas for our own pattern city! Stay tuned for more to come!

Oct. 30th

 HALLOWEEN AT NORTHERN LIGHTS SCHOOL

Classes will be fully engaged in regular learning activities tomorrow (Friday, October 31). If students are planning to dress up in a costume, it cannot interfere with their learning and must be comfortable enough for them to fully participate in the learning day. They may also wear black and/or orange, or just their regular clothes as costumes are most certainly not needed.

We ask families to please remember students MAY NOT:

            -   wear full face costume masks or parts of constumes that prevent them from writing / working

-   bring costume accessories (ie. weapons)

-   spend instructional time putting on costumes or makeup

-  bring candy, treats or other items to share with their peers or class.  (Any treats or candy sent with students to share will be sent back home.)

Oct. 29th

Everyone settled in today like we hadn't been gone and got right back into routine. We read a story about a pumpkin and then each of us used a four square planner to plan our own pumpkin story.

In Math we reviewed all that we have learned about repeating and increasing patterns to get ready for our pattern project next week.

We also learned about decreasing patterns and created our own using a variety of materials.

We read this funny book!

Then we used the ideas in the book to help us think of ways we can be calm when we become dysregulated and added some of our own ideas. We are currently working on a visual journal page which we will share when we are finished!

Today we tied orange ribbons to remember those who went to residential schools. Students wrote a word on the ribbon about how every child should feel at school.

We also learned about Winter Counts which is an Indigenous way of keeping track of important events. Each month we will pick the most important school event and draw a picture to help us remember.

 Reminders:

-no school for students Sept. 29th or 30th. See everyone on the 1st!
